# Connect Slack

> Send Cimento's training and remediation notifications as Slack direct messages, step by step, with every Slack permission explained.

With Slack connected, Cimento can send notifications to employees as direct messages from the Cimento app: training assignments and reminders, remediation training after a failed simulation, and custom messages. You choose Slack for each notification; email stays available.

## Before you start

* A Slack workspace owner or admin, or a member allowed to install apps in your workspace.
* A Cimento admin who can connect integrations.
* Matching email addresses. Cimento finds each employee in Slack by the email address they have in Cimento, so the two must match.

## Steps

    Go to **Admin → Integrations → Messaging & SMS**, select Slack, and click **Connect**.

  <Step title="Allow Cimento in Slack">
    Slack asks you to allow Cimento to access your workspace. Check the workspace name in the top-right corner, review the permissions listed below, and click **Allow**.

  <Step title="Confirm the connection">
    Cimento shows **Integration connected** and returns you to **Messaging & SMS**, where Slack now shows as **Active**.

  <Step title="Choose Slack for notifications">
    When you set up notifications for a training campaign, choose **Slack** as the platform. You can also use Slack for remediation training notifications and for custom notifications under **Admin → Notifications**.

## Permissions

| Slack scope | What Cimento uses it for |
| - | - |
| `chat:write` | Sends messages as the Cimento app. |
| `im:write` | Opens a direct message with an employee. |
| `users:read`, `users:read.email` | Finds each employee's Slack account from their email address. |
| `channels:read`, `groups:read`, `chat:write.public` | Lists channels and posts to one you choose. Channel posting isn't available yet: today Cimento only sends direct messages. |

## Things to know

* **One workspace.** Cimento connects to one Slack workspace. Connecting a different one replaces it.
* **No match, no message.** If Cimento can't find an employee in Slack by email, that notification isn't delivered, and Cimento doesn't fall back to email for it.
* **Removed from Slack.** If someone removes the Cimento app from your workspace, Cimento marks Slack as disconnected until you connect it again.

## Disconnect

* **In Cimento.** Open **Messaging & SMS**, select Slack, click **Disconnect** and type **Disconnect** to confirm. Slack notifications stop, but the app stays installed in your workspace.
* **In Slack.** To remove the app too, open **Tools & settings › Manage apps** in your workspace, select Cimento, and remove it.
